Entering the world of theater
«All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts.»
(c) William Shakespeare
Here comes the topic I've been afraid of. Theater is a unique universe that leaves an unforgettable mark on people's souls. I want it to leave a mark on me so badly! The truth is that I've never been to a theater. What is wrong with me? I have no idea why my foot has never stepped on the land of art. I promise that it will change soon.
Even though I've never actually seen a live performance, I have some experience of watching plays online. I can say it without any doubts: I truly enjoy this art form. Mostly it's about musicals — Broadway and Off-Broadway, but of course, there are some more. I've watched parts of "Funny Girl", "Heathers", "West Side Story", "Chicago" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". "Grease" is the one I liked when I was about 14.
The one that made my heart beat faster is "Hamilton" by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I know some parts by heart and it's the most outstanding musical I've ever seen. Actors, songs, US history, sets and props just blew my mind. And have you seen the costumes? I bet the atmosphere of the musical is astonishing when you see it in real life. A fun fact: when I worked at the camp, two other counselors told me that they adore "Hamilton" as well and we were singing lines from it for two months :)
Well, I hope that my future will be filled with joy of watching plays. Actually, I wanted to go to the theater in the beginning of November with my friends. We bought the tickets using our Pushkin cards, but the show was cancelled due to covid restrictions. When will it happen??? I can’t wait to see my first play! And I will let you know for sure.
